In Glasgow
I trained in general psychiatry and in child and adolescent psychiatry, and I
am a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. After spending six months in
an Israeli classroom learning to speak Hebrew I started work as a general psychiatrist
in Kaplan Medical Centre in Rehovot, a large regional general hospital only a
short drive from our home. I also trained here in couple and family
psychotherapy. After some time working in other psychiatric institutions in
Israel I returned to Kaplan over twenty years ago. For many years I was also a reserve
medical officer in various Israeli Defence Forces psychiatric clinics and was part
of a field unit for the front-line treatment of combat reactions. I specialize
in general adult and emergency psychiatry, treat psychiatric patients in the
hospital out-patient clinic, and I am the psychiatric consultant to the hospital
emergency room (“casualty department”).
PERSONAL DETAILS
In 1969 I married Judith Gaba, a Glasgow biochemistry graduate. We
relocated to Israel in 1976 along with our infant son, and in 1977 we moved to Rehovot,
a small town between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. My wife qualified here as a patent
agent and works for a pharmaceutical startup. We had three more children here,
in total two boys and two girls, all happily married and living in Israel. None
is in medicine, but they all keep themselves busy providing us with
grandchildren, at present twenty the oldest aged twelve. We see them all often
and they give us great pleasure. We are also both very involved in communal affairs
and activities. I enjoy music and opera, and jog several times a week to keep
fit. Two years from retirement, I plan to resume my efforts to learn piano-playing.
I was last in Scotland
in 1989.
