Developed a portfolio career since before they were invented. The stable feature was General Practice in Kirkintilloch from 1975 till the summer of 2012 when I finally stopped clinical work leaving a horde of ex trainees to get on with it.  Worked in the postgraduate general practice department until 2000 as associate regional director and the University department of general Practice since then as a (very) part time senior lecturer. Did a lot of clinical trial work in the 80s and 90s which was great fun and accumulated lots of air miles. Got involved with the GMC (no not like that) in 1997 and have been doing a lot of work for the Fitness to Practice section since then. Also work as associate clinical director of East Dunbartonshire CHP trying to bring clinical governance to their attention. Spent a year on UK Council of the RCGP which was a big mistake and was chairman and then provost of the West of Scotland Faculty RCGP which was fun. Also do a lot of medico legal work for the MDDUS. No intention of retiring, it’s all too much fun.
