Career
I did the GP rotation at the Southern General and then went to Ontario for several months as a GP. The purpose of this was to raise the cash for a trip to India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. After returning to Glasgow I joined a practice in Clarkston on the south side of Glasgow and am still there 35 years later. For the last 3 years I‘ve worked 3 days a week and am now going to 2 days. Decades back (literally) I enjoyed part time occupational medicine with several public companies for 25 years along with GP. Then fund-holding and LHCCs came along and I dropped the occupational for management as vice-chair of the LHCC. I’ve gradually dropped out of everything apart from GP now. Appraisals will drive me into complete retirement.
Personal Details
I became married during the Southern Gen stint to Ruth and we have two sons, both in London. One is married with two sons also. We visit there often apart from the boating season to which I am addicted. I started crewing many years ago for a friend racing yachts at club level and beyond, then when our sons’ university costs stopped, acquired a succession of sailing yachts to cruise the West Coast , Ireland and the Hebrides. We now have a motor cruiser and plan to go to the Orkneys this summer. Work pays for the diesel! Music is also a significant part of our activities. Ruth became a professional musician and visual artist after she retired from her financial business. The quality of life in Glasgow we find compares very favourably with that in each of the many distant places to which we’ve recently travelled.... apart from the weather!
