Career
After house jobs at the Western Infirmary, I trained in Surgery on the West of Scotland Surgical Rotation and was appointed Senior Lecturer in General and Vascular Surgery at the Royal Infirmary with David Carter in 1980. After 3 years I saw the light and moved back to the NHS as Consultant in Vascular Surgery at the Royal where I remained until retirement in 2007. I was on the council of RCPSGlasg for many years including 7 years as Honorary Treasurer and I examined in all parts of the Surgical examinations including the Intercollegiate Fellowship. I enjoyed teaching the students and trainee surgeons and especially the banter with the worthies of the East End of Glasgow.  I was happy to retire to concentrate on my 2nd career as a flight instructor.
Personal Details
I married Evelyn in 1973 and we lived in Hardgate then Bearsden until retirement. We have 4 children: David who has recently been appointed as consultant Ophthalmologist in Glasgow and is married to Laura who has recently presented us with our first grandchild: Fiona who has just completed training in anaesthesia and is about to take up a consultant post in Auckland NZ: Steven who works in sports psychology and coaching in Edinburgh with his wife Gemma, and Linda who is doing a post grad course in Speech Therapy in London.

Shortly after retirement, Evelyn and I moved to Perthshire where we enjoy golf, walking, bridge and country dancing. I continue to pursue my passion of aerobatic flying as an instructor and I have a share in an aircraft at Scone Airfield.
