Career
Travel after house
jobs put me right off a medical career but one last try (Obs & Gynae in the
Third World at Hackney Hospital London) revealed an interest and modicum of dexterity
in surgery. An SHO rotation at Charing Cross Hospital was followed by
misssionary work in Darkest Essex (Basildon Hospital) then lecturer in surgery
at the Royal Free Hospital. After training in liver surgery (life long scunner
for offal ever since) a career in vascular surgery resulted. Fulbright
fellowship at the Mass General led to consultant vascular surgeon appointment
at the Free, subsequent chair in vascular surgery at UCL Medical School, and
Serjeant Surgeon.

Personal Details
Married to Maggie, once an
A & E sister extraordinaire now managing a complex family and business, we
have had 3 great kids. Gina specialises in furniture of the baroque working for
Mallett's in London dealing in antiques, Patrick is finishing a Masters in computer
language and Sophie in her final year in Geography looking for a career in
energy and carbon. We have shared passions cohabiting remarkably well in
Muswell Hill. Research into new biomimetic biomaterials keeps me from
retirement just yet with several objectives unmet. No imminent prospect
of grandchildren or taking up golf but I live in hope.
