Norman and
I were friends from school days at Paisley Grammar through University. After graduation our paths went in different directions and we lost touch until one day while visiting a patient in Greenock, I saw a picture of Norman on the mantelpiece! The patient was Norman's mother in law!
He had become a Consultant Geriatrician (at the age of 32) in Edinburgh and now
lived in Dalkeith with his wife Margaret and their two sons. We managed to catch up with him there, and
then later at a school reunion where it was obvious that his health had
deteriorated - a challenge that he faced with great stoicism.
He died, too young, in Edinburgh Royal in April 1998, whist awaiting a liver transplant.
