Career
I was once told I should change my job every nine years. After a year as a pathologist, I started training as an ophthalmologist. I did sub-specialty training in London (small village to the south) in surgery of the orbit (small area in the head). After nine years I left my post as Senior Lecturer at the Western, and did a Bunbury. Bunbury Western Australia to be exact. So, nine years later I was in Perth (the southern one). I overstayed my time there and didn’t manage to escape for eleven years. Retirement was an option, and somewhere near Inverness beckoned, but I landed a job in Elgin and I am still there. My options now fall between retirement, being sectioned, imprisonment, death or continuing as I am. Having only served seven years in the North I am trying to postpone further decisions for another two years. |
Personal Details
Margaret and I married in 1971 so we will be having our own personal fortieth next year too. We have 2S1D if I ever make it into Who’s Who. David (1974) a sound engineer and producer with Australian National Radio, Stuart (1977) also in Perth, who works as a recruitment exec., and Susan (1980) journalist , gig photographer and mother who lives in England (small country south of Gretna). In the UK I sailed, but in Australia much of my leisure was underwater. I like my garden, taking photographs, cycling and being up mountains. We have renovated and extended an old farmhouse near Nairn and have not yet finished. We have three very interesting grandchildren. My life consists of not having enough time (or money) for all the things I want to do. Quite strange, still only 18 but an old man looks at me every morning from the mirror! |
