Career
A bit like school, after residencies in Stobhill
and the Victoria, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. After a year of delivering
babies in Rottenrow and the Queen Mothers’, I knew a lifetime of this would not
be ideal, especially being colour blind. This however helped me with
anaesthetics as I panicked later than everyone else! I enjoyed the acute stuff
but found the routine tiresome. Being a blether I decided I was better suited
to the variety and challenges of General Practice, initially in East Kilbride
where I was able to combine this with 4 sessions of anaesthetics at Hairmyres
for 10 years. I joined my father in Practice in the Gorbals in 1979, enjoying a
satisfying career until retirement at the end of 2009. The practice enlarged
and developed over the years, being successful in fund holding, the IT
revolution and gaining QPA. |
Yvonne and I have been happily partnered for 10 yrs, 5 of them married. My 3 daughters from my first marriage all graduated from University and are successfully following their careers. All are happily partnered. No grandchildren yet.
