Last of the generations to get into Medicine without school science –
Belated thanks to all alphabet neighbours who carried me through physics, and
chemistry labs! House jobs in GRI and Stonehouse, Lanarkshire. One year in GRI
Bacteriology. Vocational training scheme in Dumfries.
Five years GP in Gourock before looking for greener pastures. Locums in Port
Isaac Cornwall, South Island New Zealand, Rochester and Leeds. Senior partner in Port Isaac was taken ill after I
left and forced to retire early. Ended up twenty six years in Port Isaac,
recently the home of the Doc Martin TV series and the Fisherman’s Friends -
probably the best GP job in the country in a beautiful part of the world.
Founder Member of the Dispensing Doctors Association and RNLI doctor for 25
years. Retired 2008, grateful for an excellent medical education and a happy
and lucky career. Wouldn’t have changed any of it (well maybe bacteriology).
