Career
After training in orthopaedics in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Christchurch(NZ), and Heinola(Finland), I took a consultant job in Rotorua in New Zealand, which is a tourist place with forests and lakes in the middle of the North Island, and which had the National Arthritis Hospital, allowing me to have a combination of general orthopaedics and a special interest in rheumatoid surgery. |
Personal Details
I am still working, having given up acute trauma work at the age of 60, and have developed interests in forestry, avocado, olive, and feijoa growing, and have a minute vineyard on the Coromandel peninsula, which we are often at as much to work as relax.
I married Marianne in Amsterdam in 1973, and we have 2 children. Ben, with a degree in oenology, now a scientist at a research institute in Rotorua, and Anja, with a degree in industrial design, now working for our Dept. of conservation, protecting native birds. We have 2 grandchildren, Bree age 6 and Kelain age 10 weeks.
I still manage to run a few times a week, play golf once a year if lucky, go fishing, and snorkel for paua.
And we think we live in paradise!
