Career
I trained in the Department of Surgery at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, under Sir Andrew Kay and became a senior lecturer with David George. In 1989 I did a “Mo Johnstone” and moved to the NHS in the Royal – a daring switch in those days! I worked as a pancreatico-biliary endoscopist, laparoscopist and surgeon until I happily retired in 2007. I loved the basic job and the people but was delighted to leave the red tape and the management heavy system.
Personal Details
I married Isabel in 1972 and we have a son, two daughters and two grandchildren. My big mistake was to leave Force Four in 1966 to concentrate on medicine – I could have had such fun as a rock guitarist! However, in 2008 Force Four reformed with the original personnel and we are now sad old rockers who can now afford the equipment we only dreamed about in the 60’s. We are back in the West End of Glasgow and love the “buzz”. We have a holiday flat in Crail and one in the Algarve and like to escape to the sun. I deal a bit on eBay, play some golf and try my hand at bridge. I also try hard to keep my kidneys ticking over.
