we skipped over to Burns Lake BC population 2,300, 5 doctors and a hospital to
look after a wide area and 10,000 people total. No specialists for 150 miles.
Very interesting; but demanding.
1977 we moved 500 miles south to Merritt, 6
doctors. Initially I had 2 anaesthetic mornings a week; but with the advent of
endoscopic surgery the “OR” closed & with it, maternity services.
1992 we moved to Vernon, 100 doctors.
2003 I left emergency and maternity to theyounger doctors, continuing my own office practice till 2008. I intended to do some rural locums, however health had other priorities. So now I am working at an urgent care clinic up to 8 half days a month with lots of holidays.
