Career
After my House Jobs, I became a full time GP. In 1975, I left and joined the School Health Service where I remained until I retired. Initially, a full time School Medical Officer,  I became part time after our first son was born.  Subsequently, I was a Clinical Medical Officer and finally a Staff Grade Community Paediatrician-semantics! I retired in October 2008.

I really enjoyed working in Educational Medicine, but time marches on, and here I am a “spiv” and thoroughly enjoying it.

It is wonderful not having to get ready in the morning to go to work and to jump to “bells”. I can hardly believe what I used to pack into a day. But then I was younger!
Personal Details
In April 1970, I married Gerry Robertson, a medical student.  Gerry followed a career in Clinical Oncology-specialising in Head and Neck Cancer at the Beatson Cancer Centre in Glasgow.

We have five sons, John, Andrew, Francis, Gregory and Bernard. The first three are Surgical Trainees in the Edinburgh Deanery. The last two, twins, are in their first Foundation Year and hope to train in surgery too.

Our eldest son John is married to Laura and we have two grandchildren, Matthew-3 years- and Lucy 1 year. Our second son Andrew has just become engaged to Erin.

Gerry retired at the beginning of September when the twins got their first pay.   Our “Big Investment” is a static caravan in St Andrews. As a family, we had 23 years of wonderful summer holidays at St Andrews and hope that this will continue even outwith the summertime in our wee butt and ben.
