Much of my working life has been in Africa in church and government
hospitals in Transkei, South Africa and in Kenya, mostly as a general surgeon
with a bit of administration thrown in, latterly in Kenya as MO in Charge of PCEA
Chogoria hospital for six years. Back to UK in 1995, locum senior lecturer
in Bristol then
consultant breast surgeon in Gloucester
from 2000 to retirement in 2008. I still teach third year students one session
a week. After twenty years of obsessive interest in the causes of African oesophageal
cancer, I am still digging away at it and go to Africa
once or twice a year.
Personal Details
I’m married to Helen, GP turned Anglican vicar. We have three
children – Alec is a web developer in London,
Peter is a fourth year medic in Edinburgh,
Becky is a nursing student in Oxford.
I make and play assorted musical instruments including some very quirky ones.
We keep a narrowboat on the nearby canal and wonder about going back to live in
Africa.
