Career

I've been a GP in Wigan since 1975, retiring from full-time practice in 2007.  List size was 14.000 with 5 full-time and 1 Part-time; the social spectrum across the board.  Since 2008, I've worked as a GPSI in Mental Health and a locum, averaging 3 days a week.

Personal Details

I'm married to Trudy ( we met at the Southern): children are David, a self-employed hotel consultant living in Berlin, and Dawn, who has mild cerebral palsy and learning diffculties but copes very well and works part-time in the local Tesco store.  Our lovely granddaughter Lia is due to have a sister in January 2011.

After an arthroscopy of my R knee in 2008, my consultant said I should never jog again or walk on rough terrain.  I was delighted to write to him after climbing Scafell Pike in 2009: he felt this was 'miraculous'.

Wigan is a warm-hearted Northern town, ideal for sporting pursuits and access to many destinations.  Whilst we enjoy returning to Scotland occasionally, our lives are well-cemented here.
